Besides me? I'm still in finishing (or not finishing) mode, so I haven't given up yet. I just have so many other projects going, and finishing is not on my list of fun things to do. Word on the message boards is that this KAL has "bombed." Please help motivate me, people! I want to finish this project, it looks really great so far. Who's with me?

Hello All,

I joined this knit along awhile ago and am just getting around to posting. I was waiting to receive the yarn I ordered. I will be using Knit Picks Andean Silk in Cinnamon. This will be my first time using this yarn.

I will be casting on as soon as I finish up 2 projects which will be in another day or so. I'm very excited to be part of this knit along. I'm especially looking forward to seeing everybody's finished Slouchy Cardigan.

Thanks Deena for introducing me to this project. I was unfamiliar with the book "Greetings from the Knit Cafe" and am deighted to have found it. I used the size adjustment as a guideline to complete the project and also note the Noro Silk Garden worked great. I'm sorry we couldn't really get this KAL going since it was my first but I recognize that moving is difficult and understand the magnitude of taking on a KAL at this time. I hope your adjustment to your new life is successful and fulfilling. I will look for your postings in the future and hope you start another KAL soon.

These Are Desperate Times!!

I have completed the back of the sweater in just a couple of days and can't wait to forge ahead. Do we have any word on the extended sizes? I have moved with my family to Turin Italy for 1 year, and even though the city is beautiful, I have a lot of time on my hands until school begins. Everyone in this city vacations the end of August so businesses are closed. What a perfect time to knit. Can anybody hear me?

My Summer Vacation

I spent the past week doing a sort of personal "retreat" in a cabin up in Phillips, Wisconsin. Of course the Slouchy Cardigan came with me. However, Greetings from Knit Café did not! (I didn't forget the bottle of wine, though.) I was in the middle of the left side, and had made notes re the right side on the back of the print out of the errata, so I was able to just follow that to finish the left side. But, next came the sleeves. And maybe the hood. I had a week to myself and no instructions.
Since this was a retreat, and my husband was at home, I called him and asked him to look for the "bright pastel knitting book with the cute girl on the front," making sure I'd left it there. Yep, there it was, buried on the couch in my studio. What to do? People, my husband *read to me* the instructions for the sleeves over the phone while I took them down! Oh yes he did. Then a couple days later, he read to me the instructions for the sleeve cap, and most of the hood. (*sigh* my hero). So that's where it stands in my progress this week. (I know the blocking and finishing part is gonna slow me down, though).
And for tradition's sake, here's this week's cute animal photo, of my visit to Storybook Farm in Phillips, Wisconsin. You didn't think I'd skip a llama farm, did you?

Well, Slouchy and I were getting along swimmingly until I finished the first right side. Hmmm... A bit big.

Obviously, I need to do some more refiguring of the decreases because I was left with WAY too many stitches on the neck side.

OK, Slouchy--you need a time out and some frogging this weekend!

I guess it serves me right for just bounding through without the proper pattern, but I got so excited and wanted to knit ASAP. Perhaps patience is a virtue...

OK, more updates next week. How is everyone else's coming along?

Thanks everyone for providing the Cardigan yarn requirements. I set off to my LYS yesterday and found the most lusicous blend of silk and super kid mohair, but it was not meant to be, for it was way over my budget. I obsessed about this all day today and as a result remembered that I might have something in my stash. I went straight home from work and tore my closet apart...and yes, I found the perfect yarn! It is Silkroad Aran by Jo Sharp in the most perfect blue. I got perfect gauge and officially began my project. What do you think?

99 Miles....

of stockinette is not very photogenic, is it? Look at Miss Dottie's photo in the previous post. How did she make it look so interesting? Anyway, here you can see I have finished the back and the right front. They both remain shamefully unblocked. I was going to block each piece before I photographed them. Ha. and Ha. Oh, well, the road to hell is paved with Good Intentions. (I have a friend who says the road to hell is paved with Works in Progress.)

And just to keep you all awake, here is a picture of myself and a new friend I made the other day at the Boone County Fair. I may continue to post pictures of cute animals, along with my WIP, of course, unless someone tells me to stop.

Well, I've been busy knitting last week and over the weekend!

I finished the back!

Sorry about the dodgy picture, but it's the best I could do.

I'm using Babe yarn in the "Spring Green" color tipped with the spring pink. I really like it.

I'm going to start the right side now. Although the new extended sizes (I'm doing the size 40) only show the back, I'm going to assume that the sides have the same cast on as the back since it is the same in the original.

Wish me luck and I'll post when I've finished the first side.

If nothing else, I would think that knitting teaches patience. The new sizes are up now. Deena is in the process of uprooting her entire life and moving to Chicago, so the posting of new sizes is one day late. Not such a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

As far as small sizes are concerned, many, many books only offer small sizes. Some no larger than 38. Especially the British ones. It's really easy to learn how to upsize. Don't blame it on Hollywood.

The Slouchy Cardigan has been resized up to a 48"/50" bust.

Slouchy Cardigan Extended Sizes

Grandma Hollywood has been working on the adjustments and has provided edits up to the armhole shaping. We will post the rest of the adjustments in a couple of days. The edits are in an excel spreadsheet and will be included as a link on the sidebar. The amount of yarn is based on Twisted Sisters Daktari which has 145 yards. Let me know if you have problems accessing the file.

Please be patient with me in posting information as I am moving to Chicago this week. Yesterday was the big move day and I am exhausted. The good news is that my stuff is on it's way to my new home and I will follow in a few days. As soon as I get settled, I look forward to casting on my own cardigan. I can't wait to see everyone's progress and happy knitting!!

Since there aren't any extended sizes- really- in what universe is 34-36 a large? I'm bowing out of this knitalong. Good luck & best wishes to the rest of you. Hope for reality to the writer of this book. Hollywood is not the real world, unfortunately. I refuse to starve myself to conform to an unrealistic ideal. Goodbye~

I am! Not so sure how I feel about a couple pounds of alpaca stockinette in my lap, since the temps here (Illinois) are in the triple digits, but I'm sure by the time I make that much headway the temperature will have cooled down.

Actually, I just wanted to post to make sure I could actually post. And since I don't have any Slouchy Cardigan pics yet, I hope you don't mind a picture of my bulldog, Thor.

Just waiting for my book ... and am thinking about which yarn to use. I believe I read that the gauge was 19 stitches (not sure what size needles -- maybe 7US?). Is anyone thinking of using a KnitPicks yarn?

Anxious to hear other people's choices/substitutions.

Welcome to the Slouchy Cardigan KAL from "Greetings from Knit Cafe". The start date for the KAL is August 1st, just in time for the cooler tempatures of the fall.

There are pattern corrections available online. The author is very excited that there is interest in a KAL and is working on adjusting the pattern for a larger women's sweater. I will make sure to post information as it becomes available.
